Shinrone road accident victim dies in hospital

The elderly cyclist who was involved in a collision with a van on the Shinrone to Roscrea road on Monday evening has passed away, Gardai have announced.

The male, believed to be in his 70s, was brought to Limerick University Hospital after the collision which occurred on the R491 at Mountheaton, Shinrone on Monday evening, October 7, at around 6.20pm. He was pronounced dead on yesterday, Wednesday October 9, as a result of his injuries.

Gardaí at Birr Garda Station are appealing for witnesses who may have travelled on this road between 6pm and 6.30pm on the evening of the accident, or anyone who may have dashcam footage to contact Birr Garda Station on 057 916 9710, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
