Popular Edenderry native Fr Liam Lawton will be going up against madcap twins Jedward to see who will represent Ireland in this year’s Eurovision song contest.

A total of five acts will perform on the Late Late Show tonight (Friday) and the winning song will be selected through a mix of judges and public votes.

Liam has written a song called ‘Send me an angel’ which will be performed by The Vard Sisters. Liam has worked with The Vard Sisters on a number of projects in the past.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with The Vard Sisters in the past. They have recorded a number of my songs and they were runners-up the only other time that they entered the competition, with a song that I had also composed.

The title of the song I’ve written for the trio is ‘Send Me An Angel’. Life has become very challenging for most people today and we all need support and encouragement.

There are hopefully always people around us who offer us this support especially when we find ourselves in difficult circumstances. The song celebrates such people.”

A well-known award-winning singer himself with a number of top ten albums, Liam recently performed a very successful homecoming concert in Edenderry and has toured America.

The other four acts are; Don Mescall singing ‘Talking with Jennifer’ (Ronan Hardiman & Don Mescall ), Jedward singing ‘Lipstick’ (Dan Priddy, Lars Jensen and Martin Larson), Nikki Kavanagh singing ‘Falling’ (Christina Schilling, Camilla Gottschalck, Jonas Gladnikoff and Hanif Sabzevari) and the fourth act is a mystery act.
