Bohermeen jockey Johnny Murtagh landed the first major flat race of the season in England yesterday.

The Meath man partnered the William Haggas-trained Penitent to victory in Lincoln at Doncaster.

Drawn in stall one, Murtagh always looked confident and the 3/1 favourite pulled two and a half lengths clear.

"William said he was very straightforward and enjoys ease in the ground," commented the jockey.

"The race worked out brilliantly, I got a lovely lead to a furlong and a half out and he galloped all the way to the line."
