Ten man Tullamore have no answer to slick Salthill Devon

Soccer: League of Ireland “A” Championship

Early lapses in concentration and a failure to convert scoring opportunities were the root cause of this comprehensive defeat to an excellent Salthill Devon side in Leah Victoria Park last Saturday.

Still missing some key players and reduced to ten men after only fifteen minutes (when Simon Keegan was sent off), this was always going to be an uphill struggle for Tullamore.

But they never gave up on the fight and, despite the visitors" numerical advantage" they still managed to create a number of good chances.

A real highlight of the evening was the introduction at half-time of the Tullamore Special Olympics squad together with their coaches Lesley Francis and Joe Connolly, who last week won silver for Ireland at the European Games in Portugal when they were narrowly beaten 2-1 in the final by Switzerland.

The players, who brought so much credit to both club and country, were special guests of Tullamore Town FC.

The game was sponsored by Toro Security & Electrical and the man of the match award, which went to Eoghan O"Shea, was sponsored by Dolan"s Gala, Clara Road.

Tullamore Town are at home to Finn Harps next Saturday, 23rd May, in Leah Victoria Park, kick-off 7pm.

Tullamore: Joe Mooney, Fergal Gorman, Eoghan O"Shea, Stephen Francis, Willie Duffy, Gary Buckley, Kevin Duffy, Dean Goode, Simon Keegan, Mark Goodings and Michael Hoey.

Subs: Michael Kenaney, Stuart Kavanagh, Trevor Francis and Anthony Heffernan.
