Action from Sunday's MDL Challenge Cup clash between Trim Celtic and Torro Utd.

The long drawn out Meath & District League Challenge Cup first round tie between Trim Celtic and Torro Utd was eventually played on Sunday.

The tie was previously scheduled on six occasions and looked to be heading for a seventh after Torro declared their pitch unplayable on Sunday morning due to frost in the Navan area.

Torro conceded home advantage and the teams and officials moved to Tully Park, Trim where Louth Branch referee Jimmy Carroll ruled out the pitch as it was also frozen.

With the co-operation from both sides, the referee and the MDL the match finally took place in the afternoon at the Meath & District League ground in Navan.

Trim Celtic advanced to the second round with goals from David Conway and Arron Newman following a determined team effort from last season's beaten finalists.

The game was also memorable as it marked another milestone in the playing career of the evergreen Dominic Martin who now has the distinction of featuring in the Challenge Cup every year since the competition began back in 1980.

Trim Celtic will now meet Glenmuir next Sunday in what will be a repeat of last season's final. Trim will be hoping for revenge and will be go into the game with renewed confidence given their great run which has also put them into a challenging position for the League title.
