Irish Close Champion Shane Lowry is the only Irish man selected on the European team to take on Asia/Pacific in the Michael Bonallack Trophy in April at the renowned Valderrama course in Spain.
The European team will be captained by Spaniard Gonzaga Escauriaza, who led the European team to victory in 2006 in New Zealand.
Speaking to the ?Offaly Independent? this week, Lowry said he hoped to make the team after being part of the victorious Irish side that won the European Amateur Team Championships in July of last year.
He added that he was not expecting to be the only Irish man selected.
?I only found out last week that I had been picked,? said Lowry.
?I am thrilled to be selected and I certainly did not think I would be the only Irish man on the team,? admitted the Esker Hills man.
