Treble for Harriers" Mulligan at Leinster Junior Championships

Tullamore Harriers had five competitors at the Leinster Junior Athletics championships in Greystones last weekend. Joe Mulligan had a very successful outing winning three events. He won the junior discuss with a throw of 27.93, the junior shot with a throw of 10.47 and the 35lb weight for distance with a throw of 6.87. Aine Brennan won the silver medal in the junior triple jump with a jump of 9.3m while her sister Emer won bronze in the long jump with a leap of 4.78m. Niamh McNamara, in her first outing over 400m, took the junior bronze medal in a time of 68.6. Fearghus Hannon broke new ground in the junior men"s 400m when he won the gold medal in a new pb of 48.99.  Jack Cox 5K Road Race The annual Jack Cox 5K road race once again attracted a quality field to Kilcormac. The race was run off in sunny and warm conditions. Noel Kelly was always up with the leaders but in the end had to settle for second place behind Colm Burke of St Abban"s who was winning this race for a remarkable eight years in a row. Mick Murphy ran another great race to finish in 5th place. Pauline Curley was the first lady home ahead of team mates Liz Cuskelly and Maire Triona Keane. Mary Daly was the winner of the Master Ladies in a personal best time of 19.47 with Martina Conlon taking second place. Martin Carroll clocked 17.09 and this gave him 3rd place in the very competitive Men"s O50. Jane Conlon was the first Junior lady. Enfield 5K The annual Bob Heffernan 5k road race was held on Tuesday of this week and attracted a field of almost 200 runners. Several Harriers members competed and it proved to be a very rewarding night with many running fast times. Fastest Tullamore athlete on the night was Mick Murphy who finished in 9th place in a time of 16.10. This was Mick"s fastest time for a few years. Pauline Curley won the Senior Ladies title in an impressive time of 16.37. Liz Cuskelly was first over 35 in a time of 17.46 while Mary Daly finished second in the Over 40 Ladies and was very happy to run yet another personal best time of 19.15. Pauline Curley, Liz Cuskelly and Maire Triona Keane combined to win the ladies team title. Mullingar Road League The third leg of the Midland Road league was run off in the grounds of Belvedere House, Mullingar, last Wednesday. Maire Triona Keane recorded her third win on the trot in a time of 19.01 and now seems assured of winning the league overall. Adrian Martin improved on his time from the previous week by 32 seconds with a time of 18.57 and is now in the running for individual honours in the men"s O 45 category. BHAA The Dublin Business Houses ran a 10k race organized by Intel at their plant in Leixlip on Saturday last. John Todd finished 21st out of a field of 191 runners. John"s time was 38.28 and this was good enough for him to come home first in the O 55 category. Fixtures Monday June 1st: Flora Women"s Mini Marathon, Dublin.
