Leinster medals for the 'Young Ones'

Tullamore Harriers young athletes covered themselves in glory and returned home with many medals from last Suturday"s Leinster u/9-11 Pairs Competition and u/12-13 T & F Championships in Navan. Ryan Crampton added to his Leinster Indoor title with another title winning performance in the Boy"s U-12 Shot Putt. He had a best putt of 8.25 meters to take the gold medal and he also finished 9th in the 600m and 12th in the Long Jump. Conor Mulligan took two silver medals in the Boy"s U-13 Shot Putt and Javelin. He threw 24.31 meters in the javelin and 10.64 meters in the Shot Putt to cap a fine day. Ciara Galvin had a great jump of 4.41 meters in the Girl"s U-12 Long Jump, which broke the championship record but she was pipped for the gold medal, taking silver. She then went out and took the bronze medal in the U-12 600m in 1.58, a race which saw her teammates Keelin Guilfoyle and Cara Todd finish sixth and ninth respectively. Keelin Guilfoyle had a fine putt of 7.50 meters to win the silver medal in the U-12 Shot Putt, while Anita Babu did very well to take fourth in the same event with 6.37 meters. Keelin also finished fifth in the U-13 Long Jump with 4.06 meters. Michelle Keegan had a great jump of 4.45 meters to take the silver medal in the U-13 Long Jump, a huge new PB. She also finished sixth in the javelin. Gerard Godley qualified for the final of the U-12 60m and finished a fine sixth in 9.52 seconds. He was also 13th in the Long Jump (3.64m). Noelle Cocoman and Nadine Donegan ran fine times of 1.56 and 1.59 respectively in the heats of the U-13 600m to qualify for the final. They then went on to finish 9th and 10th in the final. Nicole was also tenth in the Long Jump (3.97m) while Nadine was fifteenth (3.89m). Glen Cunningham ran a fine new PB of 1.54 in the Boy"s U-13 600m but narrowly missed making the final. Other creditable performances came from Barry Mooney who finished third in his heat of the U-13 80m but failed to make the final and injured himself in the process, Alison Mooney and Katie Kidd in the U-12 Long Jump. Those who finished in the top four in their events have qualified for the National Championships next month. Harriers athletes also performed brilliantly in the U-9 to U-11 Pairs Competition. First into action were the girls U-9 60m team of Rebecca Sweeney and Amy Cuskelly and they showed their speed to take third place. Rebecca Sweeney then teamed up with Stephanie Coughlan in the U-9 300m and they also won bronze medals after giving determined performances. Rebecca was second fastest of the girls in the race. Aaron Stones and Lorcan O"Reilly teamed up in the Boy"s U-10 60m and they did brilliantly to win the silver medals. Cormac Izuchukwu was the fastest boy in the Boys U-10 500m (95.54 seconds) and he combined with Ciaran Mulligan to win the bronze medals, while the team of Aaron Stones and Lorcan O" Reilly were sixth in the same race. The Girls U-11 team of Zoe Murray and Sarah Bracken ran brilliantly to finish second in the 600m. Zoe then won her second bronze medal of the day when she combined with Muireann McDaid to finish third in the Girls U-11 Long Jump. New club member Christopher Whittle had to run as an individual and he gave great performances in the Boys U-10 60m and 500m. Other results were: Vicky Carey and Ciara McDaid were fourth in the Girls U-10 60m, just two hundreds of a second behind third, Vicky Carey and Derbhla O" Reilly were eight in the 500m, Derbhla O" Reilly and Ciara McDaid were sixth in the Long Jump. In the Girls U-9 300m Amy Cuskelly and Aine McDaid were seventh, Long Jump Aine McDaid and Stephanie Coughlan were fifth, Boys U-10 Ball Throw Ciaran Mulligan and Cormac Izuchukwu were sixth, Girls U-11 60m Muireann McDaid and Shauna Sweeney were sixth while Shauna Sweeney and Sarah Bracken were ninth in the Ball Throw. Those who finished in the top three in their events have qualified for the National Championships which will take place in Templemore, Co Tipperary on Saturday next.
