Offalys lowry leads the way in dubai

OFFALY’s Shane Lowry has shot into an early lead at the DP World Tour Championships in Dubai.

The 27 year-old Clara native shot an impressive -6 par first round score to leave him one shot ahead of second placed Richie Ramsay (Scotland) and Thorbjorn Olesen (Denmark). Rory McIlroy is currently -4 par after 14 holes of his opening round. There are three more rounds to play between today (Thursday) and Sunday. Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo (-4) and Italy’s Edoardo Molinari (-3) are also among the early frontrunners. The total prize money at the event is a staggering $8 million.

Lowry clocked up seven birdies in his opening round including a vital two on the par three 17th to push him into the lead.
His first round included one bogey on the par four tenth, with the 2009 Irish Open winner achieving par on the other ten holes. More to follow in the coming days.
