"Incendies" for Birr Film Club

"Incendies" is the offering from Birr Film Club scheduled to be screened at Birr Theatre and Arts Centre next Tuesday, January 10. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film that comes in at just over two hours long is an adaptation of Wajdi Mouawad's stage play. The French film weaves the personal with the political and the mythical, with performances by Lubna Azabal, Melissa Desormeaux-Poulin, Maxim Gaudette and Remy Girard.
The story takes up following the death of the Arabic mother of adult Canadian twins Jeanne and Simon. The two find themselves in her homeland, searching for a father they presumed dead. Expertly shifting between present and past, the film builds up to an emotionally explosive climax.
The screening is set for 8pm. Tickets cost €7/€5/€3.
