Daingean teen disco set to launch this month

The advent of a new disco in Daingean this month will provide safe and fun entertainment for the young people of the town. Sixteen nightclub will open its doors in Daingean town hall for the first time on Friday, March 15 next and on the third Friday of every month after that too.

Aimed at teens aged 13 to 16, the disco night will offer local youths a chance to socialise while money raised as a result will go towards the construction of a community centre for the area.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent organiser Liam Brennan said entry to the club night will be €8, while €12 will get patrons into a special VIP area. The club will include a cloackroom, soft drinks bar and tunes by DJ Keith Caffrey. The club’s VIP area will be situated in the town hall’s impressive Georgian rooms, which will have its own bar and toilets separate to the main club area.

To gain entry to Sixteen teens will have to be dropped off in a car driven by a parent. The nightclub will kick off at 9pm, with closing time at midnight.

The idea for the nightclub was hit on by Philipstown Community Company - which is raising money to build a community centre for Daingean - just after Christmas. “It’s a double whammy,” Liam explained. “All the kids are always saying there’s nothing to do. We’re raising money to build facilities for them and letting them have fun now too.”

Safety of course is always a concern, and to that end Sixteen will have professional bouncers on duty and one stewart to every 20 teens.

Online tickets for Sixteen Nightclub’s inaugural event will go on sale online on Monday, March 11 at 5pm. More details about the club and how to buy tickets are available by liking “Sixteen Daingean” on Facebook.
