Daingean filmmaking duo are getting set for Hollywood

Garret and Martina on set.

Daingean filmmakers Martina McGlynn and Garret Daly are getting ready for Hollywood.

The duo, along with actors Muireann Bird and Gerard McCarthy, will get to walk the green carpet later this month when the stars and filmmakers of the Offaly-produced film “A Nightingale Falling” are unveiled at a major Hollywood event celebrating the Irish in film.

Shot in Daingean, MountLucas and Tyrellspass last July by Daingean production company Mixed Bag Media, “A Nightingale Falling” featured lots of locals as both extras and crew members. They’ll be represented in Hollywood by Martina, Garret, Muireann and Gerard, who say the event heralds a massive boost for the small local company.

The A-lister party – the Oscar Wilde – is an annual event honouring the Irish in film. It takes place at Bad Robot Studios, the headquarters of Star Wars and Star Trek filmmaker JJ Abrams.
