Galway too slick for CCFL youths
Games were falling all over the midlands due to the bad weather but the excellent sand-based pitch in Leah Victoria Park ensured the game went ahead. There was a fast opening ten minutes with the home side creating the first real chance when Eoin George shot over after a great run and pass by Robbie Bracken. Galway started to play some lovely football with their two wingers Daryl Horgan and Daniel Cunningham posing a threat to the home defence, and after wasting a couple of chances the visitors went ahead on the 22nd minute when a great run and inch perfect cross by Hogan set up the in rushing Cunningham to blast past Jason Ryan in the home goal. Galway were unlucky not to have a second goal in the 35th minute when Conor Murray saw his great 25 yard shot hit the crossbar. The home team was hoping to take the game to the visitors in the second half but they failed to clear a corner and allowed John Ross in to score from six yards. The CCFL then enjoyed the better of matters and put some great moves together but found it hard to create any clearcut chances due to a rock solid defence with Elwood and Fadden cool under pressure. The game looked destined to finish two nil to the visitors until Galway sub surged into the box and scored from 12 yards. With little preparation for this game the home team will have learned a lot and they can only improve for their two away games against Roscommon and Clare. The home team had some excellent individual performances from captain Eddie Melia, James Craughwell, Mathew Byrne and Robbie Bracken. Well done to also to Tullamore Town on the excellent condition of the pitch.
