Almost €4,000 allocation for Banagher Community Alert

Banagher Community Alert is set to benefit to the tune of almost €4,000 under the Scheme of Community Support for Older People to improve security and safety for elderly people in the county. The funding of €3,914.46 for the Offaly group was announced this by Minister John Curran, Minister of State with special responsibility for Community Affairs and the National Drugs Strategy at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. "I wish to acknowledge the ongoing invaluable work carried out by local organisations in the operation of the Scheme of Community Support for Older People, where the whole ethos is centred on continued local involvement with older people within our communities. I am confident that the equipment made available by the funding I announced today, will bring safety and peace of mind to many older people as the long evenings now approach. To date 4,890 older people have been approved for funding," Minister Curran commented. Funding is available towards the cost of installing monitored personal alarm systems, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, external security lighting and other ancillary items of physical security equipment.
