Green Light for Tullamore St Patrick's Day Parade
Preparations for this year's St Patrick's Day Parade in Tullamore are well on target and the committee expect it to one of the best yet. Entries are already well up on last year even with two weeks to go. Community and business groups can still enter the parade by simply contacting any member of the committee. The Flanagan family have very kindly sponsored a Perpetual Trophy for this year's winner of the best window display by shops in the town. The decoration of shop windows in the week prior to the Parade adds greatly to the atmosphere in town and it is also an opportunity for town centre businesses. This aspect will be judged on the Monday and Tuesday before the parade. The Tullamore Gospel Choir has kindly agreed to perform prior to the Parade and this will provide entertainment for those waiting for the parade. They will be located on the bridge beside the Bridge House. With the news that Portlaoise Accordion Band will be taking part this year there are now a record six bands booked. The Committee are delighted to have our two local bands Tullamore Town Band and St. Colmcilles Pipe Band who will be wearing their brand new outfits. Durrow Set Dancers and Tullamore Ceoltas will once again entertain the crowds in front of the Review Stand from 11am. Both the Gardai and Civil Defence give the Committee great assistance every year and without their help the committee could not run the parade. Many thanks to both and we would ask the public to co-operate fully with them on the day. The Parade starts at 11.30am sharp from the Car Park of the Bridge Centre shopping centre. All groups are asked to be there by 11am for assembly. Contact details are Sean O' Brien at 086 3892854, Declan Harvey at 087 4106571, John O' Toole at 086 8986552 and Pascal Fox at 086 8760279.
