Local swim champ is Aura's member of the month

Tullamore swimmer Katie Troy had plenty of cause for celebration recently when she brought home two medals from the Special Olympic Ireland Games in Limerick. She then continued her winning streak by scooping the Aura Tullamore Leisure Centre Member of the Month award. Katie's dedication to her swimming career made her the obvious choice for June's award, as the awards aim to recognise and celebrate Aura members for their commitment to their personal fitness goals. Katie who is 21, who lives locally in Blueball, has been a member of Aura Tullamore Leisure Centre since she joined last year with her mum Catherine and sisters Leanne and Niamh. She is now a regular at Aura where she trains in the pool five times a week. Her recent successes representing Leinster in the Special Olympic Games earned her a silver medal in the 25m freestyle event and a gold medal in the relay event. She is now set to scale new heights when she represents Ireland in the upcoming 2010 World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships in Taiwan this October. The facilities at Aura are ideal for Katie's training. "At Aura, they really motivate you and help you with your training. Whether I am working with my Aura Swim Instructor Natasha Simms or training on my own, I always get great support there," explained Katie. "Katie was the obvious choice for this month's award. She was nominated by our staff members who all agreed she is the ideal candidate for the award. She has been training at Aura for the last year and it is great to see how all of her hard work and dedication is really paying off," explained Dorothy Costello, Operations Manager at Aura Tullamore Leisure Centre.
