Toyota most popular car

Toyota continues to be the car brand of choice in Offaly, a new report has confirmed this week. The Irish Bulletin of Vehicle and Drivers Statistics shows that in 2009 there were 5,078 Toyota cars licensed around the county, equating to close to one in five of the cars on the roads, over 1,660 more than its nearest challenger, Volkswagen with 3,418. In third place was Nissan with 3,236, while there were 3,140 licensed vehicles giving fourth spot to Ford in the Faithful County, and Opel made up the top five accounting for another 2,158. In total, 30,091 cars were licensed in Offaly last year. Meanwhile, at the other end of the scale, luxury car Porsche claimed the bottom spot with just five cars last year in Offaly, followed by Isuzu with 9 and 14 MG vehicles on the roads of the county during 2009. Elsewhere, an analysis of new cars licensed between 1999 and 2009 showed that the highest point for the industry was in 2000 when a massive 4,100 new cars were sold in Offaly, and again in 2006 and 2007 when new car sales hit the 3,516 and 3,751 marks respectively. By 2009, that figure had plummeted to just 952.
