Tullamore singer has chance of supporting The Saturdays
Tullamore singer Lizzie Conroy is in with a real chance of supporting The Saturdays when they play the Bord Gais Energy Theatre later this month. Along with her band Rouges Lizzie has been shortlisted in a competition that will see three winners get an opening slot at the March 28 charity gig in aid of St Vincent de Paul.
Already Rouges has the popular vote, getting to shortlist stage thanks to votes from members of the public on the Bord Gais Energy Facebook page. Now it’s over to a panel of judges, who will decide which act gets the support gig next week.
Speaking about the competition Lizzie said it’s “an honour” to be shortlisted and be in with the chance to support girl group the Saturdays. “We would like to saw a special thanks to all who voted for us,” she said. “The opportunity to perform on such a big evening would give us a fantastic experience and fingers crossed we will get there!”
Una Healy of The Saturdays said she’s looking forward to seeing the winning act perform on stage. “All the girls are really excited about performing at this special event and of course performing to a home crowd always makes the night extra special for me,” she said.
Meanwhile Bord Gais Energy sponsorship manager Irene Gowing thanked everyone who took part in the competition to find a support act. “The standard of entries has been phenomenal and the judges will have a really hard decision whittling it down to just three winning acts,” she said.
Tickets for the charity concert are available from Ticketmaster, priced between €20 and €35. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Society of St Vincent de Paul, and Bord Gais Energy have pledged to match that amount with a donation of their own.
