Irish Rail reminds passengers about mandatory face covering requirement on trains

Irish Rail has issued a reminder to passengers this week that face coverings on trains are mandatory and will help to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The Government's guidance made the wearing of a face covering mandatory on public transport from Monday of last week, June 29.

"Wearing of face coverings helps prevent people who do not know they have the virus from spreading it to others," said Irish Rail.

"It helps to reduce the spread of respiratory droplets from people infected with Covid-19. If you have Covid-19 or have symptoms of the virus, you must self-isolate."

Face coverings are not suitable for children under the age or 13, people who have trouble breathing, or people with special needs.

In addition to wearing of face coverings, passengers are encouraged to wash their hands properly and often; cover their mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing, and not touching their eyes, nose or mouth if their hands are not clean.
