Fatality confirmed after local traffic collision

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of a fatal road traffic collision which occurred between Shannonbridge and Ballinasloe, on the R357, at approximately 6:55pm last night (Tuesday).

The collision involved a car and a truck and occurred approximately one kilometre and a half from Shannonbridge village.

A male in his 30s has been pronounced dead at the scene, and his body has been removed to University College Hospital, Galway for a post mortem.

A male in his 40's has been taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe with non-life threatening injuries.

Forensic collision investigators are carrying out an examination of the scene and the road is currently closed with diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and also to any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam footage) from along the route at around the time of the collision to come forward.
