Hackett makes call for more colour in Edenderry

OffalyGreen Party Councillor Mark Hackett has praised the "wonderful colour and vibrancy" of Edenderry during the 'Spirit of Eden' Festival, and has called for more colour to be injected into the town with funding under the Streetscape Enhancement Initiative.

The initiative has a fund of €260k which will be shared between two or more towns in Offaly for shop-front improvement, the painting of buildings in vibrant colours, urgrades to signage and lighting and the development of green areas. The fund is administered by Offaly County Council with funding coming from the Department of Rural and Community Affairs.

"There was wonderful colour and vibrancy around Edenderry last weekend for the ‘Spirit of Eden’ Festival and well done to all organisers. I’d like to see us build on this and I am asking Offaly County Council and the businesses of Edenderry to get their heads together and ensure that the town gets a share of this latest fund. Local Authorities are asked to work with local businesses and property owners to identify small projects that will add vibrancy to rural towns.” said Cllr Hackett.

The Green Party Cllr had contacted his five fellow Cllrs in the Edenderry District on this issue and said he anticipates their "full support. "

He has urged members of the public who had ideas for Edenderry that might qualify under the Streetscape Enhancement Scheme to contact him. "We want to make sure that Offaly County Council knows you want a share of this fund for Edenderry” he said.
