Cool and blustery day with some showers

Weather Update

Unsettled over the weekend with a wet and breezy day expected on Saturday, followed by blustery showery conditions through the start of the week and remaining unsettled but getting milder later in the week.

Cool and blustery today with good sunny spells and just scattered showers, according to the latest weather update from Met Éireann.

Some of the showers may be heavy in Ulster this morning, but will become lighter and more isolated by afternoon, but cloud will increase in the northwest by evening. Highest temperatures of just 10 to 13 degrees in moderate to fresh and blustery northwest winds, veering westerly and easing light to moderate by evening.

Cloud will increase tonight mostly in the west and north and showers will increase there, while it will remain generally dry elsewhere with some clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees, coolest in the south and east, but holding a bit milder in west Connacht and Ulster as moderate to fresh westerly winds ease mostly moderate by morning.

There will be a mix of cloud and a few bright or sunny spells on Friday with scattered showers, mostly in northern parts during the morning, gradually dying out during the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in mostly moderate westerly breeze, backing southerly and easing in the afternoon, but freshening again from the west by evening.

Friday night will start largely dry with clear spells but cloudier conditions in the west will gradually extend across the country through the night and outbreaks of rain will develop in the northwest at times. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees, mildest near the west and south coast, in moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds.

Saturday will start cloudy and mostly dry but will turn wet and breezy as a band of rain extends from the west. There will be some moderate falls of rain in the west later in the morning with the rain becoming patchier as it extends to the east during the afternoon. Highest temperatures will range between 12 to 15 degrees, in fresh to occasionally strong and gusty southerly winds, moderating during the evening.

Rain will clear east early on Saturday night, but scattered showers will feed into western coastal counties, while it will turn drier with good clear spells further east. It will be a relatively mild night with temperatures remaining above 9 to 12 degrees in mostly moderate southerly winds.

On Sunday there will be sunny spells and scattered heavy showers. They'll mainly affect the west and northwest in the morning but will become widespread in the afternoon with some heavier burst at times. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in light to moderate south to southwest winds.

The showers will mostly become confined to western coastal counties once again on Sunday night with clear spells developing elsewhere. Turning cooler too with lows of 5 to 8 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly breezes.

Sunny spells and scattered showers once again on Monday with showers in the west becoming widespread during the afternoon. Cloud will increase over Munster and Connacht during the evening hours, ahead of a band of rain overnight. It will be a fresh day with highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in mostly moderate west to southwest winds.

Mild and overcast on Tuesday with rain in the northeast clearing during the morning but there will be patchy rain, drizzle and mist at times during the day before another band of rain extends from the northwest during the evening. Highest temperatures reaching 14 to 17 degrees as southwest winds increase moderate to fresh and gusty.

Current indications suggest that it will remain quite mild with spells of rain turning heavy at times later next week.
