Seven Offaly schools to share €2.3m in summer works funding

Four primary and three post-primary schools in Offaly are to receive a total of €2.3m in funding through this year's summer works grant scheme announced by the Department of Education today (Monday).

These grants are given to certain schools each year to fund small and medium-scale improvements to existing school buildings during the summer months.

Roof upgrades, electrical works, window replacements and improvements to toilet facilities are some of the projects which can be funded through the grants.

The Offaly recipients consist of primary schools Clonbullogue NS (window improvements), Scoil Mhuire, Cloneygowan (mechanical works), St Patrick's National School (electrical works) and Castlejordan Central NS (electrical works).

The post-primary schools being funded under the scheme are: St Mary's Secondary School in Edenderry, Killina Presentation Secondary School in Tullamore and St Brendan's Community School in Birr, all three of which are to have window improvement works carried out.

Welcoming the funding announcement, Offaly Green Party Senator Pippa Hackett said it was "great to see that seven Offaly schools will be refurbished under the Summer Works programme this year with an investment in the county of €2.31 million."

Nationally, €65 million is being awarded to 497 projects under the Department's 2022 Summer Works Scheme.
