Council pushing ahead with 20-home development

Offaly County Council is pushing ahead with plans to develop a 20-unit social housing development at Chancery Lane, Tullamore.

Councillors agreed at Monday's monthly meeting to sanction planning approval for the development, under a process by which local authorities seek public views on local authority projects.

A report by council officials recommending approval, following the public consultation, was approved by councillors, proposed by Cathaoirleach Cllr Declan Harvey and seconded by Cllr Tony McCormack.

The development is to comprise four single-storey one-bed units, eight two-storey two-bed units, six two-storey, three-bed units and two dwellings with ground floor accessible bedrooms and bathrooms.

The site is a greenfield site on Chancery Lane accessed from Clonminch Road to the west and from Church Road, Cloncollig, to the east.

It is bounded by Chancery Lane to the north and the Dublin-Galway rilaway line to the south.

The council said the development would be aimed at those on the housing waiting list and the dwellings with accessible ground floor bedrooms and bathrooms would provide flexible accommodation for families with specific medical needs.
