Local primary school students take part in Big Sing event

A number of Offaly schools took part in the recent 'Big Sing' event hosted by Music Generation Offaly/Westmeath.

Hosted in the grounds of Belvedere House, Mullingar, on June 10 last, the ‘Big Sing’ followed weeks of learning songs in schools, in preparation for coming together to create a high-quality musical extravaganza accompanied by a super live band. This year’s event was led by the dynamic Irish Youth Training Choir conductor Patrick Barrett, and during the session young singers had the opportunity to work with members of the MGOW musician team.

“More than 450 young singers from ten schools across Offaly & Westmeath, took every opportunity to raise the roof of our purpose built music tent,” Margaret Broome, MGOW Development Officer said.

“It is our hope that involvement in events like the ‘Big Sing’ lays the foundations for a lifelong love of singing.”

Offaly schools involved included Scoil Bhride, Edenderry, St Joseph's NS, Tullamore and St Mary's Primary Schol, Edenderry.
