RTÉ Archives takes look back at 1993 Birr Vintage Festival

The RTÉ's Archives today posted a clip that will evoke nostalgia for many in the Birr area.

A report on the Birr Vintage Festival which was first broadcast exactly 29 years ago - on 16 August 1993 - was made available for viewing on the Archives site.

The report by Tom Kelly shows a large crowd in the town for the parade which started the week-long festival, and which featured music from the Nenagh Brass Band and Tullamore's Order of Malta Band.

The report also included footage of Birr Castle, and spoke about a concert that was taking place as part of an effort to raise £800,000 for the restoration of the Leviathan telescope at the Castle.

The concert line-up included De Dannan, Rob Strong and stars from The Commitments, The Big Geraniums, Last of the Summer Winos and Garrison White.
