Committee makes last-ditch effort to 'Light Up Tullamore'

In an effort to avoid the cancellation of the Christmas lights display in Tullamore this year, a last-ditch appeal has been made to anyone wishing to contribute towards the cost of the lights to email the Committee by 6pm this evening (Tuesday).

The voluntary Christmas Lights Committee say they are facing “a particularly difficult financial challenge” to light up the town for the festive season this year, and need to raise a grand total of €25,000 for the project.

The appeal put out by the committee follows on from a very-poorly attended meeting which took place last week to garner interest among the local business community in having a Christmas lights display in the town this year. The meeting was attended by just five business representatives and three local Councillors along with the voluntary members of the Christmas Lights Committee.

The Committee has appealed to local business people who were unable to make the meeting, but would like to make a financial contribution towards the Christmas lights to email: tullamorechristmaslights@hotmail.com by 6pm this evening.

They have also signalled their intention to meet later on this evening to make a final decision “on the expected cancellation of Christmas lights for 2022” if they do not receive a positive response from the local business community in the town to their appeal.

Meanwhile, the Committee has also set up a GoFundMe page called “Light Up Tullamore” in an effort to raise funds to light up Tullamore this Christmas. The page, which was set up three days ago, is seeking to raise €25,000, of which €2,787 has been raised so far.
