New greenway work to provide Ferbane link

Works are due to commence this month on a new four-kilometre extension of the Grand Canal Greenway.

Offaly County Council has recently received approval for the work from Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

This phase commences at Turraun wetlands and terminates in the Falsk townsland, near Gallen, just south east of Ferbane town.

The section is part of the proposed extension of the greenway from Turraun to Shannon Harbour which received planning approval in 2021.

Work continues on another section of the greenway between Edenderry and Tullamore, with the Daingean to Edenderry section completed, while the Tullamore to Turraun section, with a connection to Lough Boora Discovery Park, is already in place.
