Ferbane/Doon/'Bridge girls win thrilling final
Fresh from the heroics of their Under-14 counterparts at the Féile in Cork, the Under-12 girls of Ferbane/Doon/Shannonbridge proved that they weren't to be outdone last Sunday evening in Clara, when they wrapped up the county title by a point after a thrilling finish against Tullamore. Goals from Sinéad Egan (2) and Stacey Egan proved crucial, while Amy Gavin-Mangan also played her captain's role with two fine points. Shauna Heffernan (0-3) and Kate Kenny with a point were the other scorers. Having led by four points at half time, 1-3 to 0-2, the stage seemed set for Ferbane/DSB to win this game comfortably as they led by 3-5 to 0-7 entering the closing stages of this match. Sinéad Egan had struck for two goals with Stacey Egan raising the other green flag, but the crowd in attendance were reduced to biting their nails over the closing minutes as two goals in the last five minutes pulled Tullamore right back into the game.Ferbane/Doon/SB hung on to record a narrow 3-6 to 2-8 victory with many of the stars of the Féile success celebrating their second big title in as many weekends, while the girls of Tullamore endured heartbreak, though they too could be very proud after playing their part in a wonderful sporting occasion.
