Local children's author to perform reading in Tullamore Library this weekend

The local creator of one of Ireland's first augmented reality children's book is doing a reading and demonstration in Tullamore Library this Saturday at 11.30am.

Little Red Design Studio's founder Anna Carmody's new book Hazard Farm encourages young readers to be more aware when it comes to farm safety, a topic very close to her heart.

Anna founded Little Red Design Studio after graduating from The National College of Art and Design where she studied a BA in Product Design. Being from the country side of Tullamore and regularly visiting her grandparents farm in Mayo, she was no stranger to farming life. Her grandad Toby was in a serious farm accident with the Power Take Off Shaft and this inspired her to design for farm safety in her final year of college.

"Agriculture is the most dangerous workplace in Ireland. There are roughly 2000 accidents happening per year and children account for 11% of all accidents, Hazard Farm is one of the first augmented reality children's books to be launched in Ireland and we intend on doing what ever it takes to spread the important message of safety to prevent accidents happening this year".

As it is fast approaching spring, the busiest and most dangerous time for children living on or close to a farm, Anna wishes to reach every farm household that has young children with her book and App called "Hazard Farm" available on the Google play store.

Hazard Farm empowers children to stay safe with characters Billy and Lily. The book explores the main hazards in Agriculture through the use of rhyme, story, augmented reality and app interactions. The book works hand in hand with a free app. The parent or teacher can download the app and enter the unique code found in the book. The app accesses the devices camera and once you point the phone or tablet to the book, the story and characters pop up onto the page like magic. The child can interact with the characters throughout the story so they feel like they are a part of the story. There is a self narration feature where the parent or teacher can personalise the story in their own voice passing on the safety message to their children even when they can't be there to read to the child themselves.
