TADS to stage Calendar Girls

All over Tullamore, Kilclonfert, Edenderry, Rhode and Portlaoise, wardrobes are being raided for dressing gowns and high heels. Spray tan can’t be bought for love or money, and artificial sunflowers are at a premium. Lines are being studied, Yorkshire accents are being practiced, and a small group of people are praying for a warmer spell of weather!

Get ready for the upcoming production of 'Calendar Girls’ by Tim Firth! Tullamore Amateur Dramatic Society (TADS) is staging the production in February under the capable direction of Gay Veitch.

The play tells the story of Chris Harper, Annie Clarke and the ladies of Knapely Women’s Institute, who are challenged in their production of a calendar to fund a new settee for the relatives’ room of Skipton General Hospital.

'Calendar Girls’ tells the tale of the ups and downs of a year in their lives, spanning love and laughter, song and sorrow, joy, bereavement, grief and fame.

The ladies find that there is no substitute for good friends and that appearance is not so important after all.

The cast members are really looking forward to staging this challenging play and have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into the rehearsals. Both cast and non-cast members have starring roles in the TADS 'Calendar Girls’Calendar, ably photographed by Tara Thomas of Tara Thomas Photography, Birr.

This was no mean feat and involved the co-ordination of many people with busy schedules, but due to the sterling work of a team headed by Elaine Abbott, Assistant Director, it all came together.

The calendar will be on sale around the Tullamore area and will also be available at the performances as a programme for the production. A generous cut of the proceeds from the calendar will go to Dochas.

So, come along to 'Calendar Girls’, and all will be revealed – well, a significant amount anyway!

The play be staged in Tullamore GAA Centre, opposite O’Connor Park, on February 4, 5, 7, 8, 11 and 12 at 8pm sharp. Tickets will be available at the door and are priced at €12 per person, €10 concession. A glass of wine is included in the price of your ticket.
