WIN: Get your Shake on at ShakeFest 2014
On Saturday 31st of May 2014 Shakefest will take place at Charleville Castle, Tullamore from 12pm. All proceeds will be going towards Charleville Castle Restoration Fund. Overnight camping tickets are available.
Shakefest, a Celebration of Dance and Culture, was formed at Charleville Castle in 2006 with an eclectic mix of Middle Eastern, Cultural Dance and Artistic Workshops that ends with a multicultural evening of dance performances. Celebrating its 9th year, Shakefest grows in numbers each year and offers and increasing amount of interactive activities and performances for all ages. Multicultural Food Stalls, various craft and clothing stalls and a children’s art and craft workshop area are among the many things to enjoy at Shakefest.
Back at Shakefest this year is our Live History Village – KHI (Knight Hospitaller Ireland) Medieval Re-enactors will be treating audiences to Combat Re-enactments of the Crusaders Knights Templar as well as providing authentic medieval tents, a full try-on armory and archery for all ages.
Another major cultural highlight is our International Guest Instructor Maria Aya from Greece. Leader and Choreographer of Malema’s Banat group, Maria is a renowned teacher on Oriental and Folkloric Dance. She has studied, travelling to Cairo, with famous respected teachers such as Mahmoud Reda, Farida Fahmy, Mohamed Kazafy and Yousry Sharif. She now travels and shares her knowledge on a worldwide level. Maria will be conducting 3 workshops during her stay at Charleville Castle – Evolution of Egyptian Sha’abi, Romantic Arabic Veil and a master class on Raqs Sharqi. As well as a number of international acts, Shakefest also showcases the local talents from around the country. This year local acts include - Tullamore Amateur Dramatic Society’s Gillian Harrington, The Tullamore Rhymer’s Club, Belly dance Troupe the Red Embers and many more.
A number of workshops will also be available across the weekend including Irish Dance, Poi, Drama, Yoga and Hula Hoop, to name but a few. Pick up a new skill from only $5!
Tickets for Shakefest can be purchased at the gate, on www.shakefest.net or www.eventbrite.ie and range from €10 general admission, €10 camping, €20 family day pass (€40 with camping) or only €15 for evening entertainment.
