Foundation14 to be bigger and better

Last year Tullamore’s Foundation13 arts programme held 45 events in twelve venues in Tullamore town centre. This year Foundation14 - now an official arts festival - is planning to be even bigger and better.

An initiative by Tullamore Community Arts Centre in association with Offaly County Council and the Arts Council of Ireland, Foundation13 and now Foundation14 aim to highlight international contemporary arts practice in preparation for the opening of Tullamore Community Arts Centre.

Taking place in shop units and public spaces in Tullamore, the programme is put together with the aim of creating a dialogue with the residents of Tullamore, and showcasing the possibilities the new arts centre will offer.

Foundation14’s programme includes work from over 50 local and international artists, including Susan McWilliam, Dr Kevin Atherton, Aideen Barry and Anita Delaney. Including large scale installations, photography, film, painting, sculpture and performance, Foundation14 will also include poetry recitals, theatre nights, music events and a series of workshops.

“This project is about seeing what is around us and using it for the good of the community,” organisers say. “Tullamore Art Centre is not about bricks and mortar. It is about the community it serves, that community is the foundation.”

Foundation14 will take place in Tullamore from September 15 until September 28. More details are available on www.foundation14.com or see ‘Foundation14’ on Facebook.
