A nightingale falling is coming to the cinema

The Daingean-made film ‘A Nightingale Falling’ is getting a cinema release.

A deal has been agreed that means the film shot mostly in Offaly by local filmmakers Garret Daly and Martina McGlynn of Mixed Bag Media will be screened in cinemas nationwide from September 12 next.

A local premiere, complete with red carpet, has been arranged for the IMC cinema in Tullamore next Thursday, September 4.

“It’s exciting to think that it’s going to be on cinema screens across Ireland for people to see,” Garret told the Offaly Independent this week.

Garret has also encouraged cinema goers to try fit in a screening as close to the film’s September 12 release date as possible, as a one week run is normal for most films of its kind chosen for cinema release.

“If it does well, cinemas could decide to keep it,” he explained. “But officially it’s one week only. That’s what we have to presume.”

‘A Nightingale Falling’ is set in Ireland during the War of Independence. It stars Tara Breathnach and Muireann Bird as two sisters who care for a wounded soldier.

The film was selected for the renowned Galway Film Fleadh in July, and will be shown at the Underground Film Festival and the inaugural Sky Road Film and Television Festival in Clifden next month in addition. ‘A Nightingale Falling’ has also gotten interest from north America, and it’s hoped it can be unveiled there next year.

Cinemas screening ‘A Nightingale Falling’ from September 12 include IMC cinemas in Tullamore, Tallaght, Santry, Dun Laoghaire, Dundalk, Athlone and Galway as well as cinemas in Cork, Ennis, Sligo, Killarney and Navan.
