Tullamore architects exhibition for aras an chontae

The latest exhibition by well known Tullamore architect Fergal McCabe will be opened in Aras an Chontae in Tullamore next Thursday, October 16.

The exhibition entitled ‘Casting Shadows’ will run in the same venue until October 31 next.

Though now based in Dublin, the built heritage of Fergal’s home county of Offaly has continued to inspire him as an artist, and his latest exhibition in Tullamore features drawings now only of well known Dublin architectural ensembles, but also elevational renderings of Offaly buildings of architectural merit and several capriccii displaying well known buildings of both locations.

“In a capricco sometimes familiar buildings are relocated to unfamiliar settings to allow a reappraisal of their qualities,” Fergal explains. “In the early Renaissance the capriccio was a device used to promote or explore the concept of the ideal of Utopian city.”

Fergal is an artist who revels in being a throwback to an older era, when architectural rendering was all about pencils, penmanship and rulers, and cheerfully admits to an inability to come to terms with advances in architectural science and technology and sophisticated computer aided design packages. He has remained true to his trade and art form, and his illustrations of buildings and topographical drawings are much sought after.

Fergal has won the Sullivan Graphics prize for his ‘Dublin Capriccio’, and he’s also the winner of the Georgian Society’s award for his original drawing of Dublin Castle.

‘Casting Shadows’ will be opened at 7pm on Thursday evening next by Dr Edward McParland, and all are welcome.
