Centenary of old school celebrated with Mass
An open invite has been extended to a Mass taking place this Sunday in the old Ballykilmurray National School. The Mass, which takes place at 3pm, marks the centenary of the school that closed in 1967 and now serves as a local community centre.
Sunday's Mass will take place in the building itself, and will be celebrated by former pupil Fr Rory O'Brien.
Ballykilmurray National School opened in 1911, and up to 1967 served something in the region of 400 to 500 pupils. The oldest surviving past pupil is Mrs Margaret Waters, who is aged 101.
Refreshments will be served after the special Mass.
