Local photographer wins national competition

A Tullamore-based member of the local Slieve Bloom Photography Club has picked up first prize in a photography competition attached to this year's St Patrick's festival in Dublin. Anil Kumar's winning photograph shows a parade dancer in the foreground with the Irish flag in the background. It was chosen as the overall winner from more than 400 competition entries. Indian born Anil captured "the true spirit of the festival" with his photograph according to festival organisers. His winning entry was praised as energetic and lively with vibrant colours that express the enthusiasm and creative energy of the participants. The win isn't Anil's first honour. He has won national and international awards in the past including a silver medal in the Irish Photography Federation National Shield Championship. In the past Anil has worked as a photojournalist for leading Indian newspapers including the New Indian Express, Pioneer and Deepika. At present he runs online newspapers for the Indian community in Ireland.
