Amie Egan's designs have been chosen for the final of the Persil Irish Fashion Awards.

Tullamore student's design chosen for €10,000 Xpose competition final

Twenty-three year old fashion design student Amie Egan from Tullamore has this week been revealed as one of eight finalists in a design competition that boasts a top prize of €10,000.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent, Amie said winning the competition would be “a dream” that would allow her to further her own designs following her graduation from college.

Amie has just graduated from a four year fashion design degree at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in Dublin. She entered the Persil Irish Fashion Awards in January, and this week her designs on the brief ‘play date’ were chosen to go forward to the competition’s final.

That means Amie’s designs will be displayed in selected Dunnes Stores nationwide, as well as in the final on TV3’s Xpose, in September. The winner of the competition will not only get €10,000, but will also have their designs manufactured and sold in Dunnes Stores.

The designs sought by the competition needed to be casual, machine washable and durable ones that could be worn to the park.

Amie explained that she designed functional outfits for a mother and her son, based on sportswear. “I based it on an Irish summer, so there’s still lots of layers,” Amie laughed.
