Durrow students launch first novel

One of the most exciting events to happen in Irish literature in the past decade is happening next week in Durrow.

‘The Custodian’ is a full length novel by DA O’Connor that will appear in bookshops across the country.

An entertaining thriller, it’s been described by author Eoin Colfer as “a winner”.

What makes the book really stand out however, is that author DA O’Connor is in fact eight pupils from Durrow NS - Niamh Bracken, Frank Crossen, Robert Crossen, Robert Kinsella, Elysha Maken Finlay, Molly McNally, Kate Molloy and Jack Wogan) and their principal teacher Frank Kelly.

‘The Custodian’ has now been published by Educate.ie and is available in bookshops across the country, including Midland Books and Robbins in Tullamore.

Along with the accompanying workbook, the book is also being used as an educational tool by numerous primary and secondary schools. Rumours abound that ‘The Custodian’ will be included on the recommended reading list”for the new Junior Cert course.

‘The Custodian’ will be officially launched next Wednesday, June 11 in the main ballroom of the Bridge House Hotel, at an event that is open to all. 

There will be no charge on the door next Wednesday, but donations will be accepted. As with profits from the book itself, money raised at the launch will go toward the building of a new gym at Durrow NS.
