Offaly could take three AIMS trophies home

Offaly is in the running to take three awards at this year’s Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) Awards.

Nominees were revealed last month, while winners will be announced at the AIMS awards banquet in the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney tomorrow (Saturday).

Karen Martin has been nominated for the Ballywillan Drama Group trophy for best comedienne for her role as Miss Hannigan in Tullamore Musical Society’s production of ‘Annie’.

Birr Stage Guild has been nominated for the Mary Kitt trophy for best house management for its production of ‘South Pacific’.

Fred Boulton meanwhile has been nominated for the Mary Kelly Award for unsung heroes by Birr Stage Guild.

Karen’s competition is Vivienne Lee, who played the part of Lina Lamont in Claremorris Musical Society’s production of ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ and Aisling Reid, who played the part of Ado Annie in Ratoath Musical Society’s version of ‘Oklahoma!’.

Birr Stage Guild is up against Naas Musical Society and its show ‘Calamity Jane’ as well as Tipperary Musical Society with ‘HMS Pinafore’.

There are eight nominees in Fred Boulton’s unsung hero category.
