Historic boat to break journey this weekend at Shannon Harbour Canal Boat Rally

The Shannon Harbour Canal Boat Rally will be something of a working holiday for one boat in particular.

One hundred and nineteen years after she first plied her trade as a cargo boat on the Irish inland waterways, heritage boat 4E has been pressed back into service to make a special delivery to Enniskillen - and it's calling by Shannon Harbour this weekend.

Some weeks ago the boat left Tullamore habour with an ancient Bolinder engine on its front deck, with a target of getting to the Waterways Ireland headquarters in Enniskillen over approximately three months where the engine will be displayed.

The boat will stop off this weekend to attend the Shannon Harbour Canal Boat Rally, which is organised by the Shannon Harbour branch of the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland, where she will be joined by a number of other heritage cargo boats that will travel on to Enniskillen as part of a heritage fleet.
