Dooley welcomes Arden View centre funding

Tullamore Councillor Sinead Dooley has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Social and Family Affairs Mary Hanafin that approval has been given to Arden View Family and Resource Centre for €520,000 for alteration and extension to their existing premises. 'I am particularly pleased for the staff and management committee of Arden View Family and Resource Centre who have provided an invaluable service to the community since it was established in 2002. The centre is presently located in an old shop premises in the estate, and while ideally located, it is unsuitable to run all of the activities which the management wish to implement in the coming years. 'The centre is the main point of contact for the community in Arden View and with three full-time staff working from the centre, the residents enjoy many activities from youth activities, arts and crafts, training, personal development courses, recreational activities for women and older person toone to one support services. 'This allocation, which is the largest allocation throughout Ireland under this particular scheme, will not only mean that Residents can enjoy a purpose-built community facility, but it will also instill a sense of ownership, pride and achievement in the local community simultaneously attributing to the development of social and human capital in the estate,' Cllr Dooley concluded, 'I am delighted for everybody involved with this project, I wish them every success with the building and I am pleased to have been in a position to assist the committee for such a worthwhile facility.'
