The first ever Edenderry Harbour Festival will be filled with interesting events for locals and visitors alike, according to organisers.
Plans for the town's festival, which takes place over Easter Saturday and Sunday, April 3 and 4, are on target to make the weekend a memorable one, and organisers are hopeful it could become an annual event.
A local farmers' market will be launched on the Saturday in the town, while there will be three boats docked in the canal, which will be open to visitors.
"It's full steam ahead for the festival, there's lots of events planned.
The farmers' market will be a great draw to the town," said Emily Hurst, one of the festival committee members.
"There will be a boat on display from the Kildare branch of Waterways Ireland and the Inland Waterways will provide a heritage boat while there will also be a museum boat open as well, it's a great attraction."
The Edenderry Historical Society will also have a display concerning the history and development of the Grand Canal through Edenderry and how the town came to develop around the waterway. There will also be live entertainment both nights in various locations around the town and an Easter Egg hunt.
The festival committee had a meeting again last night (Thursday). For more information, you can contact Emily on 085 3879077 or Paula Murphy on 087 9397221.
