It's decision time today (Friday) as 107,397 registered voters in the Laois/Offaly constituency go to the polls to decide the fate of Ireland's next Government. A total of 934 people have been added to the supplementary register in Offaly, giving a total of 51,913 people living in the county who are able to vote. A total of 1,101 people have been added to the supplementary register in Laois. Polling stations are open from 7am this morning until 10pm tonight and the count will begin in Tullamore for the constituency tomorrow (Saturday) morning. It is expected that the count will continue well into Sunday. It means that there are almost 4,000 more voters voting this time around compared to in May 2007 when there were 103,673 people registered to vote in the constituency. Turnout in the constituency was a high 69% for the 2007 general election which was held on a Thursday. A population of 4,276 in the former Roscrea Number two Rural District has been transferred out of Laois-Offaly and into Tipperary North since the last election. People with addresses in areas such as Coolderry, Shinrone and Moneygall will be voting for Tipp-based candidates.
