Birr's Celina at centre of internet row

The wedding is on and her relationship with fiancé Padraic Woods is as rosy as ever. That's according to Birr's Celina Hehir, the woman at the centre of an internet interaction that went viral after her husband-to-be's stag night in Treacy's Hotel in Waterford last weekend. Twenty-seven-year-old Celina posted a message on the Facebook page of Treacy's Hotel last Sunday evening complaining that her fiancé and his friends did not get their deposit back on checking out. Celina has been defending her version of events, and the stag party, after the hotel publicly responded to her original complaint. In its response on Facebook, the hotel said it would like to tell her about the night if she sent on her phone number. However seven hours later a comment detailing the night from the hotel's perspective was posted. "It is unfortunate that I am left with no choice but to publicly state here on Facebook the true events that surrounds your partner's stag party," the comment began. The Facebook comment went on to mention details including a lady being brought back to the hotel, a smoke alarm being set off, abusive behaviour, complaints from other guests and having to call the Gardaí. But Celina has again disputed these points in an interview with this newspaper. The deposit was retained by the hotel to cover cleaning charges, the comment - which has since been taken off the hotel's Facebook page - added. Speaking to the Offaly Independent this week Celina disputed those details, saying the lady in question was part of a couple the group met out that night and in any case did not return to the room her husband was staying in. She also said that it was actually her fiancé and his friends who called Gardaí when their deposit was not returned. Celina said she trusts that her fiancé did nothing wrong on his stag. "I know when he's lying to me," she said. She said the boys were "obviously going to have a bit of craic" on the stag, as she did the previous weekend when a surprise stripper showed up at her hen with 18 friends in Limerick. The sergeant on duty at Waterford garda station yesterday (Thursday) said no incidents connected to the situation were recorded on their system, but could not rule out that a call-out may have taken place and been dealt with at the time. The Facebook interaction between Celina and Treacy's Hotel has since travelled across internet forums and attracted numerous comments, which Celina said she is finding hard to deal with. "I like to see myself as a positive person," she said. "But there's not one comment I could turn into a positive thing," she added however. "It's like social network abuse." She also defended herself against criticism aimed at the grammar and spelling in her original Facebook post. "I'm a well educated girl," she said. "I just wrote that in text form." Celina said the incident hasn't in any way weakened her ten-year relationship with Padraic, the father of her two children and the childhood sweetheart that she's going to marry in August after a two-year engagement. "There's not a bother on us," she said. "We're just laughing at it all." Although she regrets the incident added some unwelcome stress in the run up to her wedding, Celina said she's even thinking about laminating coverage of the incident and giving it pride of place on tables at her wedding reception. Celina will marry Padraic at her dream wedding on August 24 next, helped by a bridal party including three bridesmaids and the same number of groomsmen. The couple plan to marry at St Brendan's Church in Birr, before being joined by 110 of their friends at a local wedding reception. Celina said this week all that's left to do is wait for the day now, with all preparations complete. The wedding decoration theme will be fresh and floral, she added, while the dress everyone will be stretching their necks to catch a glimpse of she will describe in advance of the big day just as "contemporary". When contacted by the Offaly Independent a spokesperson from Treacy's Hotel in Waterford said they had "no comments to make" regarding the situation.
