Casting call for aspiring young Offaly actresses

Budding local actresses between the ages of nine and eleven have a chance to turn their stage dreams into reality next week. A casting call is to take place in Dooly’s Hotel in Birr next Thursday, February 28 to cast on-screen ten year old Roisin in the upcoming short film 'Men and Women'.

Thursday’s casting call will be attended by 'Men and Women' director Ruth Meehan and casting director Alison Crosbie. It will be a brief session including a chat to camera and a photo, and organisers have said that no rehearsal or preparation is necessary.

Filming of 'Men and Women' will take place from March 23 to 27 in Offaly. Nine to eleven year old girls interested in trying out for the part should have a country accent and appear as a girl from a rural farming family.

'Men and Women' is based in the 1970s. In it Roisin is the daughter of Moll and Dan, and younger sister of Seamus. In the film she begins to understand the adult world of her parents, including their life, marriage, the division of labour and her place within the world as an adult.

Next Thursday’s casting call will take place in Dooly’s Hotel in Birr from 1pm to 4.30pm.
