Gardaí are continuing an investigation into an incident in Shinrone yesterday (Thursday) afternoon that saw a man injured in a pipe bomb explosion.

The incident happened on the Roscrea Road in Shinrone at approximately 3.30pm yesterday according to a Garda spokesperson.

A man in his 50s was injured in the incident and taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone with information on the incident or who may have seen something suspicious in the area to contact Birr garda station on 057 9169710 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
