A post mortem is to be carried out on the body of a man in his 50s at Tullamore hospital.

Body taken from canal in Edenderry

The body of a man in his 50s has been recovered from the canal in Edenderry.

The grim discovery was made by a walker at approximately 6.10am this morning (Monday, June 17).

The man's body was recovered from the water at Blundell Wood in Edenderry.

It has been taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore, where a post mortem will be carried out.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent Edenderry's Sergeant Kevin Quinn said the dead man is not from Edenderry, but had been living in the town.

Efforts are currently being made to notify the man's family. Sgt Quinn said the death is being treated as a tragic incident, and not suspicious.
