Spain shooting victim born in Ferbane

It's emerged that 54 year old Sheila Wood, who was found dead in her Spanish home on June 26 last along with her husband Philip and their daughter Sophie, is an Offaly native.

Born in Ferbane in 1959 as Sheila Donegan, she and her family moved to Dublin later the same year. The tragedy that saw Philip Wood shoot his wife and daughter before turning the gun on himself has understandably hit relatives who remain in Shannonbridge and Ferbane hard.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent Sheila's brother Des Donegan spoke of his heartbreak at what he described as a 'terrible end to three lovely people'. He also underlined the importance of not demonising Philip Wood in anyway.

Describing Philip, Sheila and Sophie as 'the three musketeers', Des said the small family were devoted to each other.
