Clara pool refurbishment gets go ahead as tender report approved

A grant of €784,000 has been allocated to Offaly County Council for the refurbishment of Clara swimming pool, it’s been revealed.

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring announced today (Friday) that the tender report submitted by Offaly County Council for the project has been approved.

The news has been welcomed by Offaly Fine Gael TD Marcella Corcoran Kennedy, who revealed it was there she learned to swim.

“I am delighted that at last the approval for the pool at Clara has finally come through,” Deputy Corcoran Kennedy said.

“Having learned to swim there myself, I can testify to the fabulous amenity it has been for the people of Clara and the surrounding area for so many years. The planned refurbishment will bring it up to state of the art standard and give people of all ages the opportunity for exercise and recreation.'

For his part, Minister Ring said he’s delighted the project can now go ahead. “It will provide a valuable amenity for the people of Clara and surrounding areas and is further evidence of the government’s commitment to provide opportunities for people to participate in sport and recreation,” he said.
